Polaroid were formed in 2017 by Stephen Keogh, Dan Gillick and Sean Keogh. The group formed the band after ending a previous project, The Cavaliers, originally formed by the Keogh brothers in 2015. After asking Gillick to join as bass guitarist in early 2016, The Cavaliers gigged around Dublin throughout that Summer and were well received earning them a favourable mention in State.ie. However, at the end of the season the three were unhappy with the quality and style of their music.

In October 2016, Keogh, Gillick and Keogh began writing new material, getting together whenever possible. Within a few months a new sound had been devised by the group and the name Polaroid was chosen to reflect chaotic and controversial year that was drawing to a close. The trio felt that it reflected both their sound and context style well. 

Polaroid work to create music that, while having an easy listen pop sensibility, is unusual and unique with an emphasis on social commentary.
